| Purpose of Committee |
|
| The purpose of the committee is to review applicants for Rotary scholarships and award scholarships based on the guidelines established and approved by the board of directors. |

| Committee Members |
|
The scholarship committee will consist of five members who have varying years of Rotary service.
• The Community Service Director will appoint a chairperson and,
• The chairperson will select four other committee members.
Members will rotate out serving no more than three consecutive years on the scholarship committee. |

| Committee Chairperson |
|
The committee chairperson is responsible for:
• Forwarding scholarship applications to high school counselors each year,
• Organizing applications for the committee members,
• Organizing the committee in the selection process,
• Advising school counselors and applicants he status of their application.
• Making arrangements for presentation of scholarship to the students,
• Advising students their requirements to receive scholarship funds,
• Forwarding all necessary documents to the Rotary Foundation for scholarship funds. |

| Types of Scholarships |
|
The Rotary Club of the West Bank will award:
• Four-year community service scholarships of $1,000 a semester,
• A one-year scholarship to an outstanding Rotaract student of $1,000 per semester,
• A one-year scholarship to Holy Cross College for two freshmen who join Rotaract of $1,000 per semester.

| Scholarship Funding |
|
| The Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of the Westbank may, in its discretion and subject to available funding, award one or more scholarships in the various categories set forth below. The Board need not award a scholarship in every category and may also award more than one scholarship in any category, at its discretion.
The total of new scholarships awarded for any given year shall not exceed 25% of the total funds available for annual scholarship giving in that year without special resolution of the Board of Directors. Nevertheless, it is the intention of the board of Directors to award not less than one new scholarship per year provided that award does not imperil the ability to fund existing scholarship commitments.
In the vent that one or more scholarships, previously awarded by the Board of Directors should lapse, whether due to disqualification, resignation or termination of the student from the program for any reason, then in that event the Board of Directors may, in its sole discretion, award the balance of that lapsed scholarship (either as a whole or in its sole increment as the Board shall elect) to such other qualified person or persons as the Board shall select for such term as the Board shall determine, not to exceed the term remaining on the lapsed scholarship. No person shall be awarded or be the recipient of more than one full scholarship for any given year. |

| Community Service Scholarship |
|
| These scholarships are awarded to students who exemplify Rotary’s motto of “Service above Self” and have demonstrated service in their community.
Scholarship applications must be received in March and the committee review and selection should be completed soon thereafter.
Scholarships will be awarded in April.
Community service scholarships are awarded to seniors in Westbank high schools who:
• Are Westbank residents,
• Attend a four-year, accredited, Louisiana college or university,
• Maintain a full-time status as defined by the college they attend,
• Have participated in community service on the Westbank as required by their school as well as voluntarily.
Additionally, applicants are required to submit:
• A community service scholarship application,
• An essay describing the types of community service activities they have participated in and how they have served their own community,
• At least one letter of recommendation attesting to the student’s community service.
The scholarship committee will conduct an interview of the top five finalists prior to finalizing their decision.
In making their decision, the committee will consider all the above requirements as well as the student’s academics, extra curricular activities, attitude and personality.
The scholarship chairperson will provide copies of the recipient’s application to the Board of Directors and upon their approval send a check requests to the Rotary Foundation for scholarship funding.
Each semester following the scholarship award, students in the scholarship program are required to send copies of their class schedule to the committee chairperson who will make the request for the funds. |

| Rotaract Scholarship |
|
| The Rotaract Director of OLHCC Rotaract Club selects one outstanding student to be awarded a one year scholarship in the amount of $1,000 per semester.
The student must be enrolled as a full-time student at OLHCC and be a member of Rotaract.
A copy of the application and a class schedule is presented to the Scholarship chairperson who will submit the check request to the Rotary Foundation after the approval of the Board of Directors. |

| Rotary Scholarship for Our Lady of Holy Cross College |
|
| The Rotary Club of the Westbank awards two freshmen of OLHCC a one-year scholarship in the about of $500 a semester.
Applicants must submit:
• A scholarship application outlining the activities they were involved in,
•An essay explaining why they want to attend OLHCC and why they deserve the scholarship,
• An application for admission to OLHCC,
• Copies of their high school transcripts (must have a 3.0 GPA or higher),
• ACT scores (must have a minimum of a 21 composite)
• Two letters of recommendation.
The student’s application is reviewed by a committee of five members from OLHCC who evaluate the student’s essay, organization, community involvement and letters of recommendation. That score is combined with a score given for a ACT and GPA for a composite score. The composite score is used to rank the students and determine the recipients of the scholarships.
A copy of the scholarship recipient’s application and class schedule is presented to the scholarship chairperson who will submit the check request to the Rotary Foundation after approval of the Board of Directors.
